The Reverend Suzanne Personette

Interim Senior Minister

We are pleased to announce that Rev. Suzanne Lynn Personette and the First Congregational Church of Branford have come to a covenant agreement for her to serve as our Interim Senior Minister. Suzanne will begin her journey with us on March 20, 2018.

Suzanne is an experienced Intentional Interim Minister, having served churches with membership numbers ranging from 30 to 500. The Interim Minister Search Committee was impressed with her faith, energy, and enthusiasm for working with a church like ours going through the transition we face. She has led nine churches in her career, including several through issues similar to those we face.

She has a process for holding small group meetings of church members in the initial weeks of her service to learn the thoughts, hopes, and insights of the congregation. She will compile and do an initial analysis of this information in preparation for a whole church meeting at which the priorities for FCC Branford will be agreed upon and used to guide her ministry. She has read the Situational Support Consultation (SSC) report and has an understanding of the information and recommendations presented in that report.

Suzanne has the composure, compassion, experience, and drive to lead us through the interim period. We are confident she will be an effective, inspirational pastor to our congregation. She earned her BA in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and her Master of Divinity from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California where she was recognized with a preaching award. She received her Basic Education in Interim Ministry as well as certifications from the Interim Ministry Network, Clinical Pastoral Education from Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, and from the Carolina School of Broadcasting in Charlotte.

Early in her ministerial career, Suzanne served as a Settled Pastor in Indianapolis as well as an Interim for two churches in Michigan. Since moving to Connecticut, she has been a part-time Acting Minister in Hadlyme and full-time Interim Minister for churches in Killingworth, West Haven, Middletown, Vernon, and, most recently, in Middlefield.

Suzanne is married to Reverend Ken Peterkin, who is Pastor of the First Congregational Church in Essex, UCC. Their son, Abe, is a junior at Valley Regional High School in Deep River. Their family is completed by their golden retriever, Augie. They reside in Essex, Connecticut.

We are excited to begin this new chapter of our historic church with Reverend Suzanne Personette. We hope you will welcome her with open minds and hearts and willing hands as we continue our faith journey together.
