Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another. Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are hurting receive the love and care they need to support them. Stephen ministers understand themselves as care-givers while God is the ultimate cure-giver or healer.
Everyone goes through difficult times. Stephen Ministers provide someone to care, to listen, to share God’s love and to help someone move through confusion, stress or loneliness – all with the complete assurance of confidentiality.
Do you know who the current Stephen Ministers are? The name of one of them is announced every week at the 10:00 service as being available for prayer or conversation. He or she will be standing by the piano after worship and then circulating during the coffee hour. But, in truth, alongside that particular person, designated for that particular week, is a team of Stephen Ministers and Stephen Leaders who are always waiting to be called upon to be a spiritual companion to someone who is facing a problem or challenge. That is what our ministry is. It has been serving First Congregational members and friends for 8 years, and here are those who are currently engaged in it:
Talk to any one of us, any time. To learn more about our ministry and how it can help you or others in difficult times, call the church office (203-488-7201), or Susan Trucksess (203-887-9512) or Lil Sakai (203-208-0406).
The Stephen Ministry program seeks to carry out the Biblical mandate to
Bear one another’s burdens with love and faithfulness.
